Traveller Declaration
If you are travelling to or from South Africa for your stay at Tulani, please check the South African Revenue Service (SARS) traveller declaration requirements before departure.
BEFORE TRAVELLING TO SOUTH AFRICA
The Customs declaration applies to international travel into or out of South Africa. It is separate from your accommodation booking and is completed through SARS.
WHO NEEDS TO COMPLETE A DECLARATION?
SARS generally requires a declaration from each person entering or leaving South Africa, including South African citizens, residents and international visitors. Children and infants must also be covered; a parent or legal guardian can complete their declaration.
Certain exceptions apply, including travellers remaining within designated international transit areas. Please consult the official SARS guidance for your circumstances.
WHEN SHOULD I COMPLETE IT?
Under current SARS guidance, submit your online declaration within the 24 hours before departure from the country you are travelling from. For journeys with connecting flights to South Africa, this applies to departure on the final leg directly to South Africa.
Check the official guidance again before you travel, as requirements may change.
HOW TO COMPLETE YOUR DECLARATION
1. Open the official SARS declaration portal.
2. Have your passport or travel document, journey details and contact information ready.
3. Complete the declaration accurately, including any goods or currency that must be declared.
4. Keep the confirmation on your phone or print a copy, and follow the Customs instructions provided.
